Four Florida Tech Students Earn Marine Technology Society Scholarships

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Four Florida Institute of Technology students have received $2,000 scholarships from the Marine Technology Society (MTS). The students were selected based on their academic excellence and their experience with and interest in marine technology. Three of the students, incoming freshmen, won MTS scholarships awarded to graduating high school seniors. Mallory Bond, a 2009 graduate of A. Crawford Mosley High School in Lynn Haven, Fla., and Howard “Chip” Lovejoy IV, a 2009 graduate of Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell, Ga., will major in ocean engineering. Katelyn Leban, a 2009 graduate of Long Reach High School in Columbia, Md., plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in marine biology. Aaron Macy, a resident of Charleston, Ill., and continuing student at the university, was awarded an MTS scholarship for undergraduates and is pursuing a degree in biological oceanography. He graduated in 2008 from the Illinois Math and Science Academy in Aurora, Ill. The Marine Technology Society is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit professional society comprising ocean engineers, technologists, policy makers and educators.
