Over the last decades, global warming has been accompanied by an increase in the taxonomic biodiversity of phytoplankton and zooplankton in the North Atlantic Ocean and a reduction in the average size of these organisms, according to researchers. Description: Explore Earth’s mysteries through the Jeffrey B. Graham "<a href="http://www.aquarium.ucsd.edu/Education/Public_Programs/Adult_Programs/Lectures/">Perspectives on Ocean Science</a>" Lecture Series, presented monthly at <a href="http://www.aquarium.ucsd.edu/">Birch Aquarium</a> at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego.

From the cosmos to the ocean abyss, join Scripps researchers on their paths to discovery in this acclaimed series. Note: There is no August lecture.

The June 14 lecture will be "Probing Long-term Temperature Change in the Southern Ocean" with Sarah Gille, Scripps physical oceanographer.

The ocean is a critical component of the earth’s climate system, storing and transferring heat in ways that are not yet completely understood. Join Scripps Oceanography physical oceanographer Sarah Gille as she describes how she and her colleagues are assessing temperature change in the ocean, exploring mechanisms that might be responsible for observed changes and grappling with the implications of ocean warming for global climate change.
